The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

If a relative is unwell at home, the family can contact the Parish Office 01306 882433 to request a visit from the Parish Priest to administer the Sacrament of the Sick.

We hold an Annual Parish Mass for the Sick and Elderly. Please contact Julie Briscoe Julie@briscoefamily.co.uk) or Ricki Hughes (07769 824833) if you or a relative require transport.

The Anointing of the Sick "is not only for those who are at the point of death. As soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for them to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived"

(Catechism of the Catholic Church 1514)

In times of illness or when we advance in age, feelings of isolation and fear often take hold. What once felt significant loses much of its weight. Yet, God draws near in our moments of struggle, offering love and comfort, and assuring us of eternal life.

"By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the passion and death of Christ"

(Catechism of the Catholic Church  1499).
