The Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptised] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed
(Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285).
This Sacrament is celebrated with those who have undergone a period of preparation. For younger people they should be in Year 10 or above of their secondary education. The Confirmation Course / Classes usually start early in the New Year. Information about Confirmation in a given academic year is available over the summer in the parish newsletter. Application forms with further details and application deadlines are available in the church until the application deadline.
As with preparation for Baptism and First Holy Communion, it is expected that those wishing to be Confirmed attend Sunday Mass, demonstrating something of the practice of their Catholic faith.
